How is it possible that we are at the end of term already! It has been an extremely busy (if slightly different) one for all in Oak class. We couldn’t be more proud of how the children have settled in and the things they are achieving already. Our final reader of the week was so excited to take home her book and hot chocolate! We have so many children now reading at least 5 times per week, keep it up!!
A big well done to our Reader of the Week for last week. I am so glad you enjoyed sharing the story book and the hot chocolate.
Last week in Oak class we began our Autumn topic, kicking off with a breezy walk in the school grounds to collect leaves. We then began reading the story Leaf Man and enjoyed thinking of new and exciting vocabulary to describe how he looks and how he might be feeling. I am looking forward to sharing our own version of the story with you …
Maths this week has been all about patterns and repeating patterns. We have been looking at animal patterns and patterns in the environment before moving on to repeating patterns. The children have been super busy continuing ready made patterns and attempting to make some of their own.
What a busy week we have had! We are all so proud of the new Oaklings and how they are settling into school. We have been busy this week exploring the new classroom environment (both indoors and out), reading stories and joining in with songs and rhymes. We are looking forward to staying for lunch next week.
The last few weeks have been very busy in Oak class. Christmas preparations began with our Christingle service at the church, followed by our play Santa’s on Strike. We have enjoyed a variety of Christmas themed activities in the classroom and created decorations. We are now becoming more confident with our independent writing and lots of us have enjoyed wearing the ‘Super Sentence’ cape.
This week we have enjoyed Global week, thinking of the different ways we can learn outdoors. We weeded our raised bed and made scarecrows to protect our plants from the birds. We searched for repeating patterns in the outdoor environment and even had a go at making our own! We also thought of how we would like to improve our outside classroom. We were really excited to have a visitor this week, Mr Campbell came in to talk to the children, which they thoroughly enjoyed!
This week we have been busy making vegetable soup. First we chopped the vegetables and then we cooked it. Finally we got to taste it at snack time, it was very good. We have also been practising our counting, finding out who can hold the most conkers in their hands. We also tried to write the numbers. Using the pegs and boards we have been making numbers and telling our friends about the numbers we have made.
This week we voted ‘The Chocolate Monster’ our favourite story of the week, many of us liked it because we enjoy eating chocolate.
This week we have been enjoying the last of the warm weather by learning in the outdoor area. We have been making mud pies in the mud kitchen, jumping from stepping stone to stepping stone and putting on shows on the outdoor stage. We have also been putting on puppet shows and experimenting with different voices. It has been another busy week in Oak class!
This week has been another busy week in Oak Class. The children have amazed us at lunchtime with how quickly they have settled into school life and grown in confidence.
We have enjoyed talking about our families and creating pictures for our family album display. We had great fun learning to play “Maths Cowboys” with almost everyone having a turn! We have been counting in lots of different ways and also enjoying our first PE lessons! We also had our first class vote for our favourite story.
We also celebrated a Birthday this week and enjoyed home made cakes as a treat at snack time. We are all looking forward to starting school full time on Monday.
