We made rangoli patterns today! Rangoli patterns are created on the floor in living rooms and coutyrards using materials such as coloured rice, dry flour or coloured sand. The purpose of Rangoli is decoration and it is thought to bring good luck.
This year our theme for Global Week is Festivals Around The World. Oak Class have been learning about India and the Hindu festival of Diwali. On Thursday, we had a whole school assembly where we learnt about another Hindu festival, Holi. This is the Festival of Colour. We finished the week off with a celebratory meal of dahl, chappati and mint raita. Mrs Brewis also joined us for our special meal.
We have been using our senses to explore different fruits – using touch, sight, smell and taste. We read the story of Handa’s surprise and then looked at the fruits in Handa’s basket. After tasting we made a graph of our favourite fruit and found the favourite fruit in Oak Class is pineapple. We also tried painting with carrot pens!
